Naphtali started her career path in the hair and beauty industry in 2000. She worked in the business area of salons as well as doing make-up. This inspired her to attend cosmetology school at the Professional Cosmetology Institute in Ames, Iowa. Naphtali worked at Rick Mosley Hair from 2003 to 2015 specializing in hair color. As director of the hair color department, she trained the color team and designed the color training curriculum. Naphtali has spent her entire career specializing in hair color and extension services. She is certified in six hair extension application methods. She currently uses Hairdreams nano bonded extensions, Easihair pro tape-in extensions and Aqua hand tied extensions. Before opening Blend & Bright, she had the opportunity to run her own business at DeLiRe Salon in Johnston, Iowa for six years.
In 2019, Naphtali joined the House of Colour Des Moines team. For many years she has wanted to open her own salon. She knew House of Colour and a hair salon would be the perfect pair.
A veteran to the Ankeny business community, Kara has over 25 years of expertise in cosmetology, entrepreneurship and hairstyling. “Being a hairdresser has always been my dream!” Kara graduated in 1991 and began a lifelong passion for hairdressing and advanced cosmetology. She opened her first salon in 1995 which grew into Ankeny’s first full-service Aveda Salon and Spa which she operated from 1998 to 2003. Kara enjoyed working with Aveda as a creative education director and, her advanced education includes training at the Aveda London Color Institute, Toni & Guy Haircutting Academy, Sonia Kashuk Makeup Academy. Kara has had her work published in Modern Salon and the lowa State Fashion Show. We welcome her passion and talents at our salon — her warm smile and energy are contagious!
COLOR DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR
Abbey graduated from the Aveda Institute in Des Moines in 2011. She worked as a color specialist for nine years at Rick Mosley Hair. She has enthusiastically been a part of creative endeavors such as The Big Hair Ball and Aveda’s Catwalks shows for water, both charity hair fashion shows. She has had the opportunity to further her skills at the Redken Exchange in New York City, as well as learn from various notable industry professionals. She loves to travel for educational classes on a yearly basis for high quality hair color classes. She is trained in House of Colour categories of hair color by season and is highly capable of delivering hair color that matches your skin tone based on your color analysis results. Her skills range from subtle highlights and balayage, gray coverage, and fashion colors.
Allie started cosmetology school at PCI Academy in Ames fall of 2018. After three years behind the chair, she has developed a passion for blondes, lived in color, and curly textured haircuts. While having guests in her chair, Allie loves to help them grow and learn new tips and tricks for their new hairstyle. As a cosmetologist, she has been able to express her passion for hair through her skill in coloring and design. Outside the salon, you can find Allie spending time with family and her puppy, Memphis.
Originally from Texas, Emma is a Southern belle at heart. Graduating from PCI Academy, her career began as a unique cosmetologist with a passion to create the perfect desired look for all her guests. Her specialties include balayage, highlights, formal styles, and haircuts. She also is trained in the House of Colour guidelines for creating hair color by season and haircuts to fit your personality.
In addition to being behind the chair, she is also certified in microblading. As a perfectionist she is the ideal artist when it comes to enhancing your brows. Continuing education is something she prides herself in and takes very seriously to keep up to date with the new trends.
Tess graduated from the Aveda institute in 2019 and has an ever-growing passion for all things hair and continuing her education in the industry. Nothing makes her happier than seeing the joy that she helps to provide her customers when they are happy with their look she provided. She has been trained in executing hair color by season, according to House of Colour standards, as well as a style to fit your personality.
She has been involved in industry experiences such as Kansas City Fashion Week, and the ChildServe Bubble Ball. She is especially enthusiastic about blonding, vivid colors and haircuts. While she was on a long-term mission trip in the Dominican Republic, she had the unique opportunity to study the art of barbering at a local barber shop.
